It's Time to Eat Deliciously! Are you ready?
Welcome to a Community of Eating Delicious Food and Creating a Delicious Life
Hi! That photo to the right is me. My name is Kathie Toulouse and my husband, Trace, and I own Choices. I will turn 62 this year, 5 foot, 3 inches, and weigh about 138 pounds, give or take a few depending on the day. This puts me in the high range of normal weight. Almost overweight. The reason for the picture in my workout clothes is to show you exactly where I'm coming from. Far from perfection. A little lumpy.
But, if you're looking for a group that will be all about weight loss, calorie counting, carb counting, fad dieting--then you are in the wrong place. Now, when I look at myself in the mirror, I have a whole new appreciation for my body. For six decades, my heart has kept pumping, my lungs have kept breathing, my digestive system keeps me fueled, and amazingly this body has given life to three amazing kids. I don't know of another mechanical piece of machinery that would hold up for so many years.
I have finally come to the realization, that I had better pay attention to this body. According to the CDC, cancer and heart disease are the two leading causes of death for men and women, both of which can be greatly influenced by lifestyle and diet. Time to get to work...but the work can and should be fun.
Let's make a plan together, to eat delicious nutritious food and create a delicious life.
A Resource--Life Kit, a Podcast
I regularly listen to NPR (National Public Radio--WNIJ in Rockford) and have discovered so many wonderful segments. One I stumbled upon was "Life Kit." Here's their description:
"Everyone needs a little help being a human. From sleep to saving money to parenting and more, we talk to the experts to get the best advice out there. Life Kit is here to help you get it together."
Who doesn't need that?? Since we're starting out the year building a delicious life, I thought this sounded like a perfect resource to share!
You can listen to it on your phone, wherever you download your favorite podcasts.
What if you don't have a smart phone, or you have no idea of where to find podcasts on your phone?
Then, you can just listen from your computer. Super convenient.
The segment that grabbed my attention was: "How to Have a Good Weekend." So many of us have a hard time unwinding or relaxing, even on the weekend (or whenever you might have a day or two off work.) Give it a listen, and see if you don't already feel inspired to try at least a few of the suggestions.
You might find your weekends will be even more delicious. Click the link below to listen. (It takes you to the website, but do yourself a favor, and listen to it, rather than read about it. I love the conversations and reactions as they put the suggestions into action.)
Eat Deliciously--Cook at Home
When you cook at home, you are taking control of the ingredients in your food. You can choose organic. You can choose how much fat, salt, and sugar you eat. When we buy pre-made food, a company is making those decisions for us. Not for our benefit, but for their bottom line. And, we are enticed by food that is inexpensive and can be prepared fast. But, I would argue that the very effort it takes to prepare food for yourself and for your family is what connects you to your food and where it comes from. It also connects us to each other.
